Shûkrag heard the sound of another of his lads being slain and the shadow beside him told him that it was the Dwarf. The damnable darkness was hindering his folk from making an impact and he would not lose another to these invaders.

The Orc leader growled out in his own wicked tongue, "Alright, lads! We leave these maggots to their own and return to camp at haste. If they want us, they can come get us there."

:ooc: I can say that I am in a quandary whether the orcs would be hindered by the dark. There is nothing in the rules that state that they have night-eyes, or darkvision, or whatever. In Tolkien's books, it can be assumed they are not hindered by the dark as seen in the attack on Helm's Deep or Minas Tirith.

But I don't want to give them too many benefits.

What do you guys think?

The two orc bowmen heeded their commander's words and turned to run. Unfortunately, Shûkrag and his companion were unable to disengage from the combat, as Grimbeorn came on with a ferocious attack.

:ooc: Results...

• Orc 4 and 5 both succeeded with their athletics and disengage.

• Shûkrag and Orc 1 failed and must stay another round in combat

• Grimbeorn hits Shûkrag with a 19 [+6  :vv: ] versus TN 21 for 7 END loss

• I am moving initiative to the PC's next round since the orcs have tried to retreat

As the orcs attempt to back down the slope, Grimbeorn goes with them, matching step for step.  For the furor of his folk is come upon him and the long struggle to catch the slavers is at last bearing bloody fruit.  For a moment, the great orc stumbles, and Grimbeorn is instantly upon him, thrashing and hewing, though never managing to break the dark mail.

Beside him, Arbogast advances in lock step.  Once again, he raises the Warden's Axe...

... and, seeing a momentary opportunity, brings it down on Shûkrag's thickly-muscled forearm.  The orc's bellow mixes with the surprised yelp of the one beside him, as the ancient dwarven magic carries the axe through one orc and into the other.  The thud of a heavy orcish scimitar hitting the soil is lost in the noise.

:ooc: 19, by my count, is just enough for a hit!  I'll use the great success to disarm Shûkrag, as per p 118.

Rorin growled and spit at the fleeing orc, "come back here you cowardly filth and let me ring that bell upon your head once more!"  Yet in the midst of the retreat he found that there was another within reach of his weapon and ire.  "Ah, you'll do nicely."

The large, mail-clad orc was suddenly set upon by all of the companions. First Arbogast swung and struck both the remaining orcs, and then Rorin's hammer fell and Bandy's arrow struck.

Shûkrag stumbled backward in the darkness, the ground uneven under his feet - all the while, the orc searched for his weapon.

:ooc: Results...
