MASS COMBAT
:~~: One of the Mountain-men is slain.
1, 2The allies are hard-pressed to hold the enemy back. One of the mountain-men is wounded – or, if any are already wounded, then one of them is slain. The bastion of Mountain Hall is being pressed - if this is rolled again, the goblins set another building on fire.
3, 4The Mountain-men hold their line and keep fighting.
5, 6, 7,
or 8
The allies fight bravely, pushing the enemy back. Black Goblin blood spills across the stones. If this result is rolled twice in a row, then the allies slay one of the goblins!

Arbogast sees the volley of arrows loosed by the goblin archers and hears Grimbeorn cry out, but has to raise his shield to catch a shaft aimed at him and does not see whether the Beorning falls.  Then the goblin raiders are on him, and the cries of the Men who have rallied to his call are drowned out by crazed curses in their harsh tongue.  He hears one scream as a Woodman's spear pierces its arm.  As his shield deflects blow after blow, he responds where he can.

:ooc: As mentioned earlier, I'm shifting into Defensive stance until the cavalry gets here.

The attack only served to enrage Grimbeorn more than he already was; his ferocity terrible to see as he waded into the fray.

The goblin raiders issuing from the mines engaged the Mountain-men at last, along with those companions that stood with them. The archers on the mountain-side aimed their arrows down towards the large melee, but also took notice of the lone woman that stood against them on the switch-back.

The Dúnadan woman strode valiantly into the midst of the goblins, her bright sword flashing with light from the fires below, appearing as if it, too, was laced with flames.

As the arrows began to fall, Rorin stepped behind Arbogast to make use of the woodman's shield. Mere seconds later the wave of goblins crashed into their line and several of their number began hacking at Arbogast's shield. Rorin stepped in to help his friend even the odds and swung for the nearest attacker's skull.

:ooc: I am assuming there are too many to take a rearward stance. Bandy takes an Open Stance. This should be interesting.

The numbers of the goblins were too great for Bandy to effectively use his bow. Reluctant to drop it ahould he need to flee to the burg he slung it across his body hoping the string would hold and plucked his sword that was buried point first in front of him into his hand.

Shapes filled the oncoming night around Bandy. He had never been immersed in melee such as this, and the Hobbit felt overwhelmed. He thrust his sword, but it was batted away by a jeering goblin with stained and cruel teeth. Still he took hope as he watched the sweeping arcs of his Dwarf and Beorning companions lop heads from their terrible foes.

What's more, the men of Mountain Hall had rallied and were now pressing against the horde of goblins.

I am not sure if Grimbeorn and Bandy also need to make Protection tests, but I have made my query on the TOR forums to see if the dice result plus Attribute Level determines the score when it comes to Injury.
